The Game(s)

In 2014, a person by the name of Pashaimeru made a game. It was called House of Pandemonium, and it was pretty fun.

It was built in Inform, and clunky as all get-out. Due to the language limitations, it had bugs, ran slowly, and was a chore. The gameplay, however, was fun, and there was lots of content.

Then, development went dark. Nothing was heard for a long time. This was actually because Pashaimeru had suffered a major hard drive failure, and lost all of the files used to make the game’s graphics.

So then I (Salty) said to myself, “I bet you can make this game again in a new engine, remove all the problems, and improve the experience with new features and a more robust scripting system.”

With Pashaimeru’s blessing, that has happened, and now you get to play it. Head on over to the downloads page to download this game, or go to the TFGamesSite forum to bicker about it with other like-minded squareheads.

Runes of Pandemonium

With the Classic game remade, I asked the audience if they wanted to see a bold new adventure set in the Pandemonium universe. It’s an RPG, it has tons of characters and monsters, it’s a great time. Development is ongoing. The game has six chapters planned, two of which are completed.

String Tyrant

New studio hire Koops was put to the test, becoming the art lead for a small game borrowing the text adventure engine from Adventure Mode. Salty worked as the writer and project lead, with Urimas providing icons and tiles

The game was completed and released in June 2020.

Witch Hunter Izana

Studio outsider TheChicMonster wanted to make a video game with some of the Bottled Starlight team. This game, internally called Project Monoceros, was an RPG featuring three characters who could change forms during battle in response to enemy attacks. The game was meant to be a shorter, more compact RPG than the Runes of Pandemonium main game.

All of the Bottled Starlight members contributed in some way, such as providing UI art or music. Spritework was done by Urimas and contractor Vjeol.

The game was completed and released in September 2023.

Studio Staff

SaltyJustice is the coder and project lead. It was her (bad) idea to remaster the game, plan it, code it, and release it. Since then she has been the project lead for all of the Bottled Starlight games.

She has also recently taken to writing, and has written more than a dozen short stories and novellas in the Tales of String series, a series that is tangential to the universe of String Tyrant.

Yuuta Wisp is an artist who has been contracted to create and recreate art for the games. He is a full-time artist who does pieces on commission.

Chickenwhite is the art lead for Bottled Starlight, though work requirements leave him unable to do as much art as in the old days.

Stinkehund does the inking for the character portraits and does the dialogue portrait coloring. She does our environmental art, title cards, and maps.

Urimas is the spriter. He made all the game’s sprites from scratch and built all the lovely tiles and most of the special effects used in Adventure Mode.

MarioneTTe is the studio’s writer. All of the Pandemonium short stories were written by him, and he writes or at least edits most of the major scenes in RoP.

Koops is a staff artist, mostly making enemy and character concepts and talk sprites.

Pyxxis is the latest addition to the studio. He makes maps, made the RoP trailer, handled wrangling voice actors for WHI, and periodically does a bit of scripting.

Pashaimeru is the game’s original creator. They declined to become involved in production of Adventure Mode. They provided the game’s source code for porting to C++ from Inform.
