Version 4.24 is Out

Changelog and download details are on the support page, or you can get it on Steam and Itch.io as usual. Since Steam/Itch don’t have very good ways to see changelogs I’ve decided to post them here. If you’re a person who doesn’t have access to these versions, you get them at the end of the month, for free.

Minor
*Added debug password “Escape Pipe” which will immediately end the current chapter. You lose all progress, it’s a debug password!

Bugs
*Fixed an issue with loading files from chapter 2/5.
*Fixed some misaligned whirlpools in Starfield Swamp.
*Fixed an incorrect border for one of Florentina’s abilities.
*Fixed bandit cat boss having transparency issues and being low on the battlefield.
*Fixed whirlpools spawning in some spots of Starfield Swamp during the rubber sequence.
*Fixed Autorun option not being toggled correctly in the options menu.
*Added missing turn order icons for mannequinized bandits.
*Fixed it not being night in one area of Starfield Swamp during the rubber sequence.
*Added missing bestiary entries for new enemies.
*Fixed DoT abilities using the crit strength instead of the normal strength in the description box.
*Fixed Polaris not mentioning the rubber queen costume password if using an old savefile that had already completed the quest.
*Removed some debug printing.

So What’s Developing?

I decided once I had finished the required translation changes for WHI that I would go ahead and do the upgraded mod support since I was already mucking around in its guts anyway. I even commissioned world-renowned artist db-palette to add some enemies to go with the monster forms they made, and threatened Urimas to make some sprites!

So you will get a few new playable forms for WHI soon as well as the mod information so you can make your own. The update will include an early (and incomplete) version of the JP translation, as well. We’re still working on it!

In other news, yes, Chic is working on the art. She’s also working 7 days a week at her day job so hell if I know when it’ll be done!

Version 4.23 is out

The changelog is on the support page and also bundled with the update if you got it on Steam. This is mostly a bugfix and QoL update, with some new gameplay and audio options to configure voice clips and whatnot. Of important note is the new badge system in chapter 1, allowing you to equip and unequip badges so enemy categories will ignore you if they would ignore that specific form.

This will also be added to chapter 5 when I do that update, as will a lot of other things.

I am currently still doing a few more fixes for the translation and modernizing the WHI combat code in anticipation of the Hard Mode update, as well as making the big pile of abilities it will need. Bug reports for Ch1 have slowed down so I may be able to start the chapter 5 fixes before the end of February.

The Results of the Poll

Oh boy.

Oh boy.

This means that – me as an insect girl won. Yes, really. I am technically a character in the game because I appear in the end credits, but how did that actually win? So I will be PERSONALLY commissioning Chic to draw the second place winner, Living Armor, because the other 1000 people who played the game and don’t care about our weird in-jokes will want to see a WHI thing and not my own vanity project even though it’s not a damn vanity project, YOU voted for it.

For reference, I suggested “Verand petting a corgi”. It got 7 votes. I love democracy.

As for when to expect this, it will be posted when it is ready. February is an extremely busy month for Chic, so I don’t know when. It will be posted on Steam, Itch.io, and here whenever it is ready.

Coding and Whatnot

The artists are off to the races on getting the chapter 5 stuff ready. Chicken is going to be finally getting the paragons to all have proper palette changes instead of just color inversion. Me? I fixed a ton of bugs last week and worked on a few features. There will be another bugfix patch for chapter 1 this week, as a few more bugs have popped up, and I have a feature or two I need to add (the badges system to chapter 1).

However, I spent a few days updating WHI’s Japanese translation. Fixed some errors, updated the spreadsheet, and switched the spacing to monospace. It’s all coming together! I have been told the translation is about 50% done.

Once that’s done, it’s back to the chapter 1 bugfixes, as well as doing a bunch of code updates to bring the combat AIs in line with the new systems. Lots of backend work that the player doesn’t really see but trust me, it’s worth it.

Definitely got 100% of the bugs this time, yep. Not a single bug for the rest of development. The update and changelog are on the support page as usual, and can be found on Itch.io and the Steam beta branch.

The update is now on the supporter page. This is mostly bugfixes, but has a few QoL changes and some added abilities. The changelog is on the supporter page.

That’s right, chapter 1’s update is now out for Patrons and Subscribers. I will be putting up the Itch.io version shortly and then figuring out what I’m doing for Steam (Steam is dropping OSX 32-bit support so I need to reconfigure the game a bunch, oh joy).

This update becomes public on the last day of February. It features 4 new forms, several new quests, an absurdly dangerous combat area filled with nasty paragons, a host of bugfixes, an updated map, new characters, a trainer who can trade platina for EXP, a fortune teller who can help you find catalysts you missed, a new way to deal with the rubber quest…

Look there’s a lot of stuff in this update. Hopefully it will hold you over while I get the chapter 5 update ready. The real sinister purpose of this update was to get all of you to bugtest the code modernizations I’ve done so get those bug reports rolling.

If you’re not a patron or subscriber or Itch.io… er (Itcher?) then you can get the password and download right now for just a buck! A single dollar! And if you can’t do that, we accept pictures of your animals, or poetry!

Remember how I said that if WHI passes 1000 sales, Chic will make a piece of art (possibly horny)? Well, we passed 1000 sales! This week, go to this google form and throw in your suggestions. Update is Next Week!

That’s right, next week we got us an update coming out. We’re putting the finishing touches on the balance right now, and I’m dealing with a few extra topic situations and the like. Unfortunately, the maps and one extra CG will not be ready in time for the initial launch, that will have to get patched in.

As usual, patrons/subscribers/whatever will get the game on the 29th of January, while the public will get it on the last day of February.

Projected Release Date

Now that things have calmed down and I have all of the features of the release done, I am going to have the release out by the last day of January for Patrons. Non-patrons get to have it on the last day of February.

Coding and Stuff

Urimas is currently working on the final sprite sheet (I want the trainer character to be doing aerobics!), Hund is working on the last “extra scene bit”, Koops is actually done but being a real sweetheart and making some extra talk sprites to add a bit of jazz, and Chicken actually finished a concept. For chapter 3. Yeah he spends most of his time at work so we put him on very long term assignments.

As for the coding part, I have finished putting in the voice acting for Mei, added a special-effects system so she can have a spooky echo when she’s a ghost, finished the new combat area’s scripts, and am now fixing up bugs and putting in enemy stats.

Coding and Bugs

Bugs bugs bugs there’s so many bugs. This is what happens when you overhaul a hundred ability files, scripts, and classes. But I’m almost done those, ho ho ho. There’s a few more minor features to be added, and most importantly, the big optional combat section I need to finish.

Urimas got me some sprites and Koops should be finishing some character concepts this week. I’m very tired!

I got Sick!

Stomach flu, it sucks! I’ve lost a week of work and more than that of sleep. Feeling better now so it’s time to finish up the maps. I’m sending a build to the testers tomorrow no matter what.
