The Monoceros Thing

I just got the new boss music, and Urimas has ONE spritesheet to go. So this week I will send it to the testers, and release the prototype to the public next week. If the testers think it’s good, I might even release it sooner.

The Pandemonium Thing

I’ve finished a minor subquest and am working my way through various other scenes, characters, and the reams of dialogue that come with having an optional character in an open world scenario. Apparently I hate myself! It’s a lot of work!

Koops finished the Talia design but we’re not releasing it for a bit because we’re going to talk about it at the team meeting. Hund got me the map for Mt. Sarulente so we’re almost done on that front.

While I do want to have the next Pandemonium release by the end of October, I am thinking I’ll come juuuuust short of having it ready. Now that I’ve said that, I’ll look like a real asshole if I have it ready on time.

Oh and DrDiss got us some new boss music. Patrons get to hear it today!

Coding and Art

Everything is ready for the Monoceros release except 4 sprite sheets from Urimas. Let’s all collectively tell Urimas to get me those damn sprites.

In other news, I added some code for “deep water” and “deep snow” etc. These areas makes your characters sink and can optionally prevent them from running. I intend to use these in a few spots to suddenly make you consider how you evade enemies.

Otherwise, I’m making scenes and stuff for chapter 2. The last one I wrote was REALLY funny and dumb. I’m proud of how dumb it is. So more of that.

Remember that podcast? It’s still in post-production.

Remember that story? Amazon declared it TOO HOT and Mario has to edit and resubmit it.

Remember Going Bananas, the tv-sitcom from the 70’s about a banana-loving monkey with superpowers and a bunch of humans who hang out with it? Only two episodes still exist that I know of. Shame.

Monoceros Stuff

I got done all of the required backend improvements for Monoceros, and am now waiting on some sprites. There will be an update when I get them. Otherwise I have to finish some stuff on another project (damn that Chic being so productive!) and then it’s more cutscenes for chapter 2. Urimas is working on the sprites, Hund is getting me the next map/region marker for chapter 2, and those other artists are designing scary monsters. Those monsters are in the sketch/line phase so you’ll see them later.

If things stop GETTING IN THE WAY I want to have the next release for chapter 2 out in October. But there is a big thing that’s going to get in the way in October so who knows. I’ll let you know more about that later.

The cover for our next Amazon story is now ready, made by Yuuta Wisp! He was very excited that he could make it in his own style, so excited that he invoiced us for less than expected. Ha ha!

Mario was busy this weekend (presumably at some sort of stoat convention) so the story will be up by next update post.

I’ve also been told the podcast we appeared on is in the editing phase and should be ready last week. So let’s hope it comes out this week.

As promised, it’s a short update this week because I was gone for most of last week. Gone, kaput, vanished, not here.

Currently I’m working through some Monoceros stuff, which might get a brief update soon. After that it’s back to fixing all the map stuff in chapter 2 before cutscene writing.

Also, a piece of commissioned writing might be coming your way soon! It’s currently in editing and then it’s up to the commissioner if/when it gets released.

And at the upcoming team meeting, we’ll be haranguing Wispy about the alraune story’s art! We all take turns screaming at him!

Coding and Stuff

Despite what you might think, Mario actually did send me the updated werebat TF. Hopefully we can force Wispy to make the TF images before next release! Mario is now editing an upcoming commissioned story so maybe you’ll get to read that soon, I don’t know.

I finished up the Empress stuff, so next version you can find her secret lair and recruit her. I’m now working on fixing the (many) map errors I made when making the Westwoods maps, and then it’ll be time for all the stupid cutscenes and examinables!

Urimas unfortunately is dead, having melted into a puddle during the heat wave. This doesn’t mean his assignments aren’t going to get done, it just means I need to motivate him. Meanwhile, Koops finished another birb concept and Chicken is back from her summer vacation pretty soon so she’ll be making some more dragon pix.

I’m out of town for most of the week so next week’s update will be necessarily sparse. I’ll probably just post a bunch of cat pictures and hope nobody notices.

Coding, Art, and Whatever Mario Does

As is the case during the run up to a dev cycle, I spent most of the week adding small features and fixing little bugs. Modders now have better access to the chat and costume handlers, for example, and the AdventureLevel lua finally got organized. It’s pretty exciting stuff.

Urimas is making some sprites for Monoceros because I asked him to, more on that below. Koops is currently working through some commissions and Hund is unassigned THANK GOD but will probably have to start making maps soon.

MarioneTTe THE RARELY SEEN whose blade has never tasted defeat has been updating the werebat TF. He told me he hated it and is unhappy with his work, which means it’s typical writer malaise.

Monoceros Stuff

Monoceros is going to get a new prototype sometime next month which will include a number of bug fixes as well as graphical updates. Your characters will change based on which charm you’re wearing, allowing you to roleplay as a werewolf at last!

Otherwise, the next update for Monoceros you’ll hear of is at the end of October, when Chic will deliver her first art batch to me.

Coding and Art

I’m almost done all the side project stuff I’ve been doing, so it’ll be back to RoP before the week is out. I also made some VERY USEFUL backend improvements to the loading handlers, greatly reducing code duplication! This doesn’t affect the user at all! Actually modders will thank me so there’s that.

Urimas is making some bandit sprites, Koops is threatening to draw reindeer girls, and Chicken is off her day job temporarily so maybe we’ll get some exciting art out of her.

We Were On A Podcast

The Changing Times TF podcast had us on to record a stunning 2.5 hour session where we discussed Pandemonium, it’s history, challenges, how we do art, and Koops’ cats. The episode is currently in editing and I’ll post a link as soon as it’s up, which may take a bit. Get psyched!

Monoceros Update

People responded very well so far to Monoceros, which is good. I have to talk with Chic about it, but I think the plan will be to have a set of milestones that we’ll shoot for, and post updates when we reach those. More on that next week.

Otherwise, the result has been very positive and I’m looking forward to working on it. Our current goal for release is September 2023, as Chic is doing all the art herself and has a day job. We’ll average a few images per week and when they’re done, the game ships.

Development Update

Chicken surprised everyone this week by not ramming her face into an object in the hopes of breaking it, and instead doing some art! Patrons get to see it today. I’ll push the wind elemental to next week to give Koops a bit of time to finalize it.

Otherwise, I’m currently working on an unannounced project with an unannounced artist. I should be able to finish everything up this week, then it’s back to RoP. Urimas is doing sprites, Hunt just did a piece…

Which depicts the biolabs in chapter 5! This was done as part of the charity stream we did some months back. Now you know what the residential domiciles and hydroponics buildings look like! We even have clouds in there due to magic science!

Hey Did You Know Pashaimeru Still Makes Games?

Longtime fans and people who read the second part of this sentence will know that Pashaimeru is the person who made the original Pandemonium games for Inform like 10 years ago.
