Woah, Coding!

The harpy stuff is finished! You can now do the bunny subquest to the end, and the harpy outpost has its characters and scripting. Thanks to some engine updates for Monoceros, we have a new game feature:

Monoceros forced me to add script interrupts to the UI (so the player can change forms on the fly by changing their charm), and that means I can use those interrupts to re-check enemy ignore states. This means I can have items you can equip adjust your ignore state, in addition to forms.

From a design perspective, I don’t want to lock the player out of fighting a certain enemy just because they wound up “making friends” with that faction. What if you need to grind harpies! Figuratively!

Adding these items will add that bit of flexibility. Just wear this badge if you don’t want to fight harpies on the roads. Even Zeke can wear it! I assume they glue it to him.

Next I will be doing a subquest in Westwoods, and that’s actually the last of the major new pieces. After that it’s dialogue, enemy balancing, and the dreaded bug testing.

Monoceros Update?

Ha ha, joke’s on you, it’s next Monday. There’s 31 days in October, sucker!

But, I was commissioned to write a short story. It’s a prequel! You can read it! It has zombies, vampires, ghosts, and TG/TF! It has everything you ever wanted.

Next week is the milestone update, where I discuss the state of the game and tease some of the enemies and bosses!

Monoceros v1.06 is out

In case you missed it. The download is on the download’s page as usual. This is a bugfix patch from v1.05.

String Tyrant is participating in the Stream Scream fest! That means it’s 50% off. I think we’ll be doing this with it for every year because why the hell not? If you somehow haven’t played it yet, get it on the 25th!

Game Progress

I had a big long meeting with dirty intern Pyxxis, who will be doing the initial balance for the rest of Monoceros so I can focus on all the mapping and scripting and stuff. There will be an update post (next week? Two weeks from now? Who knows!) for Monoceros because we have three milestone posts scheduled and the first one is in October. It will feature some of the art at this point.

As for Pandemonium, I have finished the initial layouts and dialogue for the harpy HQ, and also finished the first part of the bunny subquest. The second part is much shorter and is one of those “Hey go here to do a thing (and thus make sure the player has multiple ways to find important areas)” things. Next up is the stranded merchants quest, and then probably me killing myself adding hundreds of dialogue possibilities because all of these quests can be turned in to Mia to be published. Cripes!

That’s right, the reason why we probably won’t have the next chapter 2 release this month is because CHICKEN AND KOOPS ARE GETTING MARRIED.

Even as we speak those two are in the USA doing… I don’t know. They weren’t very specific, all I know is that sandwiches were involved. Ham? Balogna? We can’t know.

As such the flow of artwork is somewhat slowed until mid-November. I am going to make up for it by forcing Urimas to work harder. I will get all the scripts and such in position so we can slot the art in and release ASAP. So go congratulate those idiots.

There are some bugs involving the field abilities menu I need to sort out. A bugfix release will come out later this week.

And lastly, a what-if where SX-399 and 55 were anime schoolgirls and also dating. I assume they’ll get attacked by robots or something and discover they have superpowers. I know how anime works.

Monoceros Update – Yes!

You can get it here (Mediafire / Mega.nz)! This is v1.05, which contains several bugfixes and balance updates. It also allows your charms to change your portraits and most NPCs will react to your new forms! It also has a couple new bad ends, including a really stupid bad end (this is Meryl’s fault) and a bad-end gallery in Sage’s little cove.

The Monoceros Thing

I just got the new boss music, and Urimas has ONE spritesheet to go. So this week I will send it to the testers, and release the prototype to the public next week. If the testers think it’s good, I might even release it sooner.

The Pandemonium Thing

I’ve finished a minor subquest and am working my way through various other scenes, characters, and the reams of dialogue that come with having an optional character in an open world scenario. Apparently I hate myself! It’s a lot of work!

Koops finished the Talia design but we’re not releasing it for a bit because we’re going to talk about it at the team meeting. Hund got me the map for Mt. Sarulente so we’re almost done on that front.

While I do want to have the next Pandemonium release by the end of October, I am thinking I’ll come juuuuust short of having it ready. Now that I’ve said that, I’ll look like a real asshole if I have it ready on time.

Oh and DrDiss got us some new boss music. Patrons get to hear it today!

Coding and Art

Everything is ready for the Monoceros release except 4 sprite sheets from Urimas. Let’s all collectively tell Urimas to get me those damn sprites.

In other news, I added some code for “deep water” and “deep snow” etc. These areas makes your characters sink and can optionally prevent them from running. I intend to use these in a few spots to suddenly make you consider how you evade enemies.

Otherwise, I’m making scenes and stuff for chapter 2. The last one I wrote was REALLY funny and dumb. I’m proud of how dumb it is. So more of that.

Monoceros Stuff

I got done all of the required backend improvements for Monoceros, and am now waiting on some sprites. There will be an update when I get them. Otherwise I have to finish some stuff on another project (damn that Chic being so productive!) and then it’s more cutscenes for chapter 2. Urimas is working on the sprites, Hund is getting me the next map/region marker for chapter 2, and those other artists are designing scary monsters. Those monsters are in the sketch/line phase so you’ll see them later.

If things stop GETTING IN THE WAY I want to have the next release for chapter 2 out in October. But there is a big thing that’s going to get in the way in October so who knows. I’ll let you know more about that later.

The cover for our next Amazon story is now ready, made by Yuuta Wisp! He was very excited that he could make it in his own style, so excited that he invoiced us for less than expected. Ha ha!

Mario was busy this weekend (presumably at some sort of stoat convention) so the story will be up by next update post.

I’ve also been told the podcast we appeared on is in the editing phase and should be ready last week. So let’s hope it comes out this week.

As promised, it’s a short update this week because I was gone for most of last week. Gone, kaput, vanished, not here.

Currently I’m working through some Monoceros stuff, which might get a brief update soon. After that it’s back to fixing all the map stuff in chapter 2 before cutscene writing.

Also, a piece of commissioned writing might be coming your way soon! It’s currently in editing and then it’s up to the commissioner if/when it gets released.

And at the upcoming team meeting, we’ll be haranguing Wispy about the alraune story’s art! We all take turns screaming at him!
