Pandemonium v3.54 Released

Okay this is the last one before the Steam release, I promise. Also, the Steam/Itch releases are scheduled for February 14th.

We are also currently holding a patron vote on the name of Adventure Mode. As of this writing, Runes of Pandemonium is in the lead by a few votes. If you’re a patron, head over to patreon and vote!

I was away over the weekend so the update will be done tomorrow. I’m done the major bugs that need fixing (there’s always a few more) so this will likely be the last bugfix update before the Steam release.

Almost everything is in place, but first impressions are important and I want to make sure nothing is obviously seriously broken when the game hits the bigger platforms.

In the upcoming Steam release, there’s going to be ‘cheevos. Well I decided to make a full interface for that so even non-Steam players can have some cheevments. And what better way than a pun?

Plantchievements don’t do jack shit to affect the gameplay but I guess they kinda tell you about stuff in a chapter you haven’t seen yet. It took a lot of work to make these!

*Ghost Mei no longer has footsteps when running.
*Added all the other enemies from chapter 5 to the mines spawn lists. It should be possible to encounter all the enemies in the chapter there.

*Fixed cutscenes running at double speed as the dialogue is fading out.

Steam and Itch.io Release

We had a team meeting today and will be putting together the Steam and Itch.io releases. Mario is doing copy editing, Hund the images, Pyxxis the trailer, and I’m responsible for the backend (as always). There is also an approval process so I’m hoping the Steam release is ready by then. The Itch.io release will follow at the same time.

Slitted Eye!

Despite a nasty run-in with a very small interlocuter (no, not Koops. Covid-19.), all of the gameplay assets for Slitted Eye are now complete. Urimas is going to be setting up the renders, and we’re getting concepts for the game over screens now. We don’t have an ETA on the game, but it’ll be worth the wait because hoo boy is it scary looking.

It’s 2022 and the UI Update Is Out!

The changelog is that the entire UI has been overhauled for consistency, ease of use, and usefulness overall. Combat flows a bit faster and is easier to read. The text has been realigned to fit the dimensions provided, and all of the controls should now appear onscreen.

As always there may be leftover bugs and oversights, report them on the forums as usual.

With that, the next goal for Pandemonium is to prepare it for the Steam/Itch releases and make the Modmaker’s Starter Pack.

Beta 3 This Week

I’m still finishing a few things up. I want to redo the turn portraits and fix a couple animations.

As per fan response, the health and mana bars are now fatter with thinner frames, and the CP icons are now staggered and also brighter against a new backing.

In fact let’s go over that survey shall we?

The Survey Results

There were 13 responses, though I did add an additional question afterwards and some people made a new response just for that last question. There seems to be 11 respondents total.

Most people prefer the Expert UI, so that’s going to be the default one going forward. I’ll put a tutorial thingy in to tell players about the alternate UIs.

Luckily nobody hated either UI so much that they wanted it scrapped. It’s just another game option.

And the exact same percentage prefer the fading UI so that will be the default as well.

Most people like the UI! It has all been worth it. This is good because if it got a low score I’d probably reinstate the old one and be done with it forever.

You might be shocked to learn that we don’t have a title screen, we actually have a game/engine selector. This is for compatibility reasons with Classic Mode. In fact String Tyrant will even appear on it if the engine detects it.

While I do want to make a title screen, people want me to get it done later, possibly after the Steam release.

People slightly prefer the old main menu, so I reimplemented the 3×3 selection. Other than that the preferences were random and pretty slight. So nothing needs to be rolled back.

I was actually quite worried that nobody would understand the profiles menu but it seems most people do. Phew.

This is a freeform question so you can see that some of these have already been handled, and one of them is a bug report for a thing that isn’t even technically part of the UI update!

This just in: Niko is a cute kitty.

This is the extra question I added. People liked the more balanced view of the catalysts on the left side of the screen. Okay.

And that’s the survey. The official UI update will be released on January 1st 2022, so I’ll be fixing bugs and making minor additions until then.
