Major
*Used string pooling to cut savefile size in half or less.
*Fixed a serious bug that was massively inflating the filesize of saves. Combined with string pooling, saves are down to ~100kb!

Minor
*Fixed typos.
*The Region Notifier will scroll offscreen during cutscenes.
*Fixed 55’s job change icons being switched for Support and Subvert.
*Enemies forced to join your side by whatever means now give half their XP/JP/Platina.

Combat Balance
*Magnesium Grenades blind reduced to 30 (was 35).
*Paragons now get +100 INI instead of *100 INI. Which was pretty bonkers.
*JX-101’s Scavenge now correctly says it targets one enemy.
*Buffed JX-101’s accuracy by 30 so she’s not as bad during her section (she’s supposed to be thematically outmatched, but not useless).
*JX-101’s Flak Round is now 100% accurate.
*SX-399’s Flak Round is now 100% accurate. Just like mom used to make!
*JX-101’s Thunderbolt Slug now has +25 to its hit rate.
*Christine’s Lancer Inspire now correctly says it targets one enemy.
*Fixed several abilities showing the wrong damage factor. I changed some backend code, so please let me know if any more cases pop up.
*Christine’s Lancer Inspire now doesn’t glance.
*Critical Strike predictions should take into account Critical Strike Damage Bonus tags.
*Christine’s Live Wire Chain Zap now does 70 stun (up from 50).
*Adjusted some of chapter 5’s enemy stun thresholds to 70 so Chain Zap is useful in specific circumstances.
*Added cooldown notifications to Christine’s abilities that were missing them.
*Prediction box will now notify you if an effect has a zero percent chance to apply.
*Fixed 55’s Spearhead Full Auto being able to miss. Because it wasn’t supposed to.

Bugs
*Fixed a bug where the Mines boss was applying DoTs for zero damage.
*Bee Sniffers are now listed as being in Starfield Swamp instead of Evermoon Forest.
*Fixed several abilities not showing their hit rate.
*Adamantite found in the mines should now actually be added to the inventory.
*Abilities not in the active class will still tick their cooldowns when you switch classes in battle. They should also now reset correctly after battles.
*Fixed abilities with extremely low application rates clamping at zero, failing to take into account bonuses against the negative.
*Embolden now correctly lists itself as a Negative charge ability.
*Fixed mind-controlled or rubbered enemies (enemies forced to join your team) not giving their paragon KO count.
*Updated predictions handler to give Always Hits to stunned enemies.
*Fixed Christine’s Bounceback to work when covering an ally.

Development Update: August 23rd, 2021

Probably a Release Tomorrow

I’ve cleaned up a lot of combat bugs this week in addition to making maps. The maps for chapter 2’s intro are almost done, but then the bug reports rolled in. Those will be handled in tomorrow’s release.

I’ll be making a Roadmap page a bit later so people can see what the overall plans for the game are.

Slitted Eye

We’re working on it, and Urimas has just prototyped some of the in-game animations. I’m hoping to have an internal prototype out this week. It’s a fairly simple game to play, there’s just a lot going on under the hood. It’s our most media-intensive game to date.

Development Update: August 16th, 2021

Map Progress

I have about 7 maps to go before I’m done mapping the intro section to chapter 2. Some of these will need new tiles from Urimas, but I should have all the maps done in a day or two.

Once maps are done, I have to glue them together, do some script stuff to register them to the engine, and then it’s time to start scripting.

Slitted Eye

It’s being worked on.

Our 3D artists are very good. I hope to make an internal prototype this week, time permitting.

Removing the Censor Bars

I accidentally left the censor bars on by default in version 3.24. You can turn them off by editing Config_Adventure.lua:

There will be an update later this week to advance the Lua version and fix some typos.

Changelog below. This one fixes a lot of typos and an edge-case in combat where recalculating max HP would KO a low-HP character.

*Added codebase for idle animations. The only one present is Human-Mei’s idle.
*Fixed the respawning health catalyst in Regulus City 198 C. It requires a new file (or new acquiring) to fix, but it won’t respawn in NC+ anymore.
*Save notes can now go to 128 characters. It will look silly if you make it past 60, which will be your fault, not mine.

Minor
*Updated the chapter 5 credits with all 100$+ patrons up to August 2021.
*Added “Doll” to the transformation opportunities when moving into vacuum areas for NC+.

Combat Balance
*Groaning Light now correctly buffs attack power and not accuracy.

Bugs
*Fixed NC+ chapter 5 not recognizing Doll Christine in one spot in Aquatic Genetics.
*Fixed a lot of typos.
*Fixed some incorrect tiles near the Biolabs Datacore.

Probably a Patch This Week

I was going to post a patch today, but then I noticed that a bug was in the wrong column on my trello and I absolutely need to fix it *before the next patch*. So I’ll fix it and post the update tomorrow.

Budget Report

Yeah I put together a budget report for August 2021. This is because Chickenwhite is now current. The only artist with back pay due is The Stinkehund! Hooray!

What Else is Going On

I’m steadily making maps for chapter 2 and trying to discharge the myriad other responsibilities I have. I need to make a new translation for Maiden Sealed in Stone (an update got released) and hopefully finish the translation for Ruins Exploration. As well as cleaning up various bugs, doing design work for chapter 2, getting the UI update ready, and dealing with bugs that come up.

Chickenwhite will be on vacation later this month, but otherwise everyone is still working. Koops just sent me the concept for the statue girls in chapter 2, and a photo of her cat who is very cute.

Pandemonium v3.23 CHAPTER 5 COMPLETE RELEASED

At long last, it’s done

All the art for chapter 5 is done, and I even managed to slip the paragons in at the last minute.

There’s probably some bugs. That’s just how it goes. I mean there’s definitely one, and she’s in a lab coat at last, but I meant the code kind of bug.

And with that, we’re off to chapter 2. There will still be a few bugfix patches over the next couple weeks, because there’s always bugs.

Koops has been getting me some lovely concepts. I’m also going to be making an internal prototype for Slitted Eye soon, as the artists are in the “make production grade renders” phase.

*Added Paragons subheading to Journal, allowing them to be toggled on and off per area.

*Can no longer steal JX-101’s armor you freaking weirdos.

Chickenwhite still has a couple images to go, but 55 has a new Assault/Spearhead pose and I wanted people to help with the bugtesting in this version. Plus there’s a couple crash fixes which should improve the experience.

This version adds NC+ for chapter 5, fixed a bunch of bugs, and modified some combat abilities. Region notifiers are also bigger and closer to the corner, making them easier to see.

Changelog is below, as usual. There will likely be a couple more patches before Mechanical is considered done, as I want to put in some paragon stuff in the journal.

*Fixed collision in the river wilds tower.

Development Update: July 19th, 2021

We’s Still Working on the NC+ Art

Chicken is still at it, having melted in a heatwave (but she reformed like the T-1000 so it’s okay). She needs to complete 55’s new combat poses and a Maisie emote, and we’re ready.

Meanwhile, I spent like 5 days modernizing all the old dialogue code. Now, dialogue is stored in the same folder as the map data, making it a lot easier to touch up. This provides no gameplay benefit whatsoever but it was annoying the hell out of me.

I have also decided to get a couple minor things, like field party movement (followers will walk up to the party leader if the leader stands still) and possibly idle animations if Urimas has time.

I am hoping the NC+ for chapter 5 release will come out next week. Cross your fingers.
