Development Update: February 11th, 2019

Programming Stuff

Doll Manor has had its map completely overhauled, adding a second floor and a basement. Perhaps a screenshot:

Doll Manor Screenshot

Complex LOS, doors, enemy chasing, dynamic enemy AI, and all that nonsense is currently implemented. Apart from any emerging bugs, all that’s left is for me to get the story implementation done, which will be this week. The first complete prototype will be released soon!

Writing Stuff

The third book in the Pandemonium series is now ready for your perusal if you missed the 5$ patron bonanza. You can get it from Amazon here, and you can see the author’s page with all the books here.

Mario is still working on the spooky ghost book after like 5 rewrites so far. He would like to thank you for your patience.

Art Stuff

Hund has completed the shading for all the dolls and we’re now onto the “experimental” phase, wherein we see what sorts of monsters we can squeeze out of our limited art budget.

Urimas has been doing some tiles work for Doll Manor but is otherwise just doing his own thing while he waits for me to demand new sprites from him. Poor guy.

Chickenwhite has completed SX-399’s complex emotions and will be working on the enemies for the Biolabs area. Hopefully they will all be ready by the time we resume work on Chapter 5 starting in March.

Writing Stuff

Writing took the top spot this week? Sacre bleu!

That’s right, Mario’s first two stories are up on Amazon. If you missed out on the first round or are the kind of person who buys the same thing more than once (???), you can get them on this Amazon page for three bucks a pop.

50% of the proceeds go to the game’s budget, and 50% goes to Marionette’s selfish desire to not get kicked out of his house in the middle of winter. If you like slimes or cultist spanking, take a look. I will also post links when the next stories (Bee, Ghost) go up.

Coding Stuff

I’m still working on Doll Manor, overhauling basically every aspect of the game. I think I’m going to go for a full dev-cycle and release this month, because I intend to release the game as a standalone on itch.io/GOG/Steam/etc and use the proceeds to pay the artists, who have this selfish desire to not get kicked out of their houses in the middle of winter.

Presently, I am adding complex LOS and door management (all done in the Lua script!) and will be adding three new types of enemies this week. That’s right, there are three additional monster forms to play as, and you better believe you’re going to like them because I have no idea how we’re going to even make one of them.

It will also have a completed story with many possible endings. Some of them might even be canon!

Art Stuff

Hund promises to have the shading done for all the Doll Manor images in (probably) a week. Koops has gotten us some initial concepts for Doll Christine and Chicken is almost finished the cover for the Bee Story. After that, she’s doing emotes and concepts for Doll Christine and the new Raibie enemies.

We also have some concepts for new monster enemies that will appear in the biolabs but I’m not sure when those will get done and posted.

Urimas, despite my efforts, continues to exist.

Music?

I’ve sent a new assignment to DrDiss but he hasn’t gotten back to me yet. It’s for Chapter 2 but I’m sure patrons will get to hear about it soonish.

Development Update: January 28th, 2019

Coding and Whatnot

Doll Manor’s Prototype 2 will be released to 5$ patrons tomorrow. I have a few bugs to fix up that I really should deal with otherwise I’ll get 20 people reporting the same ones. Combat is fluid and fun if still a little rough. We’re working on a new UI for it, don’t worry.

Artistry

World Famous Artist Stinkehund has given us colors for all of Doll Manor’s art, and will be doing shading this week. Koops and Chickenwhite have been having a rough time of it but I expect to get SX-399’s emotions sheet this week, and possibly some art for the upcoming biolabs segments.

The Writing

Mario does not give me an ETA on the spooky ghost story. He wants to make sure it’s ready and in editing before he gives such a thing, to make sure you don’t get false hopes.
I think it’s because the ghosts are too scary for him.

Development Update: January 21st, 2019

Programming Stuff

This week has been kind of slow for me, since January is the month I have to work my day job a lot. The boss takes a vacation, I gotta cover those shifts. Yawn.
Fortunately, I have most of the Doll Manor combat overhaul done. I expect it should be done Wednesday (gotta work Tuesday…) and we can start testing it to see if it’s, you know, fun.

Art Stuff

Hund drew some corgis.

pandemonium-logo3

These corgis will appear on the logo for the book series Mario is working on.image0

Koops’ latest masterpiece.

So yes, the art is going well.

Music and Writing

Mario is working on the ghost story. No release date expected, but the rule about 5$ patrons will hold true for it. I’ll send messages out over Patreon to all applicable patrons.

DrDiss has finished both the puzzle theme and the new gala theme. Patrons will get to hear the new gala theme this week, and it’s pretty darn good.

Development Update: January 14th, 2019

Coding Stuff

I’ve cleaned up the Doll Manor code and normalized everything. It now flows better together on the screen and has far fewer bugs. I’ve also added an endings handler so the game can properly end when there’s no more content.

Next up is the overhaul of Text Adventure’s combat system. When that is completed, a new prototype will go out to anyone with access to Doll Manor, which is 5$ patrons.

If you’re a former 5$ patron but aren’t currently, you’ll be able to send me a message and I’ll get you a link to it.

Art Stuff

Chicken promises to complete the Bee Story’s cover tomorrow, at which point it’s back to emotes and transformations.

We decided on a shading style for the dolls and Stinkehund will be doing the coloring on those this week.

Urimas still exists.

Music and Writing

Mario has finished the bee story and it will be released to 5$ patrons today! If you’re a patron, check your patreon for maximum excitement!

Meanwhile, DrDiss has finished some compositions for the next release of Chapter 5. We’re adding both a puzzle-solving theme and a new theme for the gala. The previous theme was crudely stolen borrowed from another game, and didn’t line up properly anyway. The new version sounds way nicer and is fully owned by the team, so no getting sued!

Development Update: January 7th, 2019

First, the Update

Coding

I, Salty, have started my work on Doll Manor. I first got all the images updated with their inked versions, so none of the placeholders are left. I also reorganized how the transformation text is handled and will be writing the next three sequences tomorrow.

I went over the combat design of Text Adventure mode with artist Chickenwhite and good-design-person Klaysee, and we came up with some improvements. I’ll be putting together a prototype this week to see how it turns out.

Aaaart

Spriter Urimas has completed cutting up the bee parts for animation, and we all laughed at the fact that he’s a serial killer. Ha ha! Ha.

Artist Stinkehund completed inkwork for all the dolls and will be doing some color samples probably next week. He has some things to do that he’s been putting off for a while. We need to decide on a shading technique which the artists will do without my input because what the hell do I know?

Artist Chickenwhite is working on the covers for the Pandemonium Story series. Patrons will get to see a preview of the cover! Sign up today!

Artist Koops is actually moving and won’t be doing any art for a little while due to a scuffle on a Philadelphia basketball court. Once she’s done changing houses, she will be doing the design for Christine’s doll form later in chapter 5.

Things that are neither Art nor Coding

Writer MarioneTTe reports that he is very close to completing the Bee story and the Ghost story shall follow soon after. Once the cover art is finalized we will be submitting the Slime and Cultist stories to e-reader purchasing stores where you can buy them if you aren’t a 5$ patron for the specific months they were available. $5+ patrons for December AND January will get the Ghost and Bee stories for free, look forward to it!

Musician DrDissonance is currently standing by. I will have more work for him soon but it’s on the back burner while I deal with getting Doll Manor sorted out.

Second, the Budget

Here is the project budget report for January 2019. Look at all those numbers, they sure are shiny. Stay shiny, numbers.

Third, the Poll

animation results

Only one question was actually asked this time, and look what the result was! People want to see Alraune Mei getting lewded by a random bee, animated by Urimas in sprites. Okay. That’s what we’ll be doing next. We’re currently doing a Zombee scene and can expect this next one to be in the next prototype.

Fourth, Our Big Meeting

Hey, we had a meeting on Saturday and discussed our plans for the project. My goal is to have Prototype 5-4 out sometime in April. The majority of the work needed is actually on me, I have to complete three sidequests and three segments of the main quest, in addition to Doll Manor. Chicken needs to only produce about 14 more images and then renormalize shading on Chapter 1’s, which is something that can be a work-in-progress when 5-4 goes live.

If 5-4 is as far along as I want it to be, then Chapter 5 will be story-complete. There will be a few sidequests left to go before I can declare Chapter 5 to be complete, but 5-4 is going to be the “almost there” point.

We also went through the sidequests and fleshed them out a bit, which is good because I am a creative swamp.

Lastly, we discussed alternatives to Patreon. This is a backup thing since platforms are not your friends. Recently, Patreon angered some people who I’d prefer not to promote by naming. Patreon has effectively no internal systems or regulations in place by which to judge which people get banned or demoted, and enforce these loosely-defined regulations arbitrarily. We still use the platform, but we’re also aware that Patreon deciding to destroy us for any reason would cripple the project, so we should have alternatives ready.
We’ll be looking into other platforms which can serve as a backup. I’ll be doing the research myself.

Development Update: December 30th, 2018

Prototype 5-3e is out for Windows, Mac, and Linux!

You can get it here or go to the downloads page!

With the help of a certain slimegirl, we caught that annoying shop inventory bug. Plus there’s lots of other small changes and bugfixes in this copy.

Yes this post is a day early, but I’m going to be busy tomorrow and don’t want to have to write up an update post on New Year’s Eve.

Programming Stuff

We are back to work starting today, no longer sick and rested from a nice vacation.

Since I just put out a release, it’s now time for me to work on Doll Manor, which should be done by the end of the month (depending on the art). I will be updating the combat system to an as-yet unknown system that should flow better, adding all the transformations, endings, interactions, and more.

Art Stuff

Urimas is currently working on the next animation, Zombee Mei’s Zombee encounters! Hund is working on getting the last few dolls inked, while Chicken is getting covers done for MarioneTTe’s stories.

Writing Stuff

MarioneTTe promises that the bee story will be done soon. He hopes before the end of the year. The ghost story should come right after that. If you are a 5$ patron for December OR January you will get access to both stories, since it’s totally our fault that they weren’t out sooner.

Interesting Changelog

The Tellurium Mines now have some randomly placed rooms in them with sort-of sidequests. These areas are incomplete and have no enemies, but the scripts work fine.
There is also now a boss on Floor 50 of the mines for you to fight, and a new ability you can get for 55 on Floor 40.

The Pipe Nightmare puzzle south of Sector 96 is now available for use.

A lot of form handlers have been added and Christine’s many forms now play much more smoothly.

A lot of major UI bugs and whatnot have been fixed. See the changelog below if you’re curious. Many more bugs remain!

Boring Changelog

  • Fixed some problems with the Patreon Backer listing.
  • Fixed some text overruns and spelling errors (Thanks, a bunch of people!)
  • Have a disreputably enjoyable shopping experience! (Thanks, Terafreak!)
  • Fixed some stray collisions. (Thanks, Aaaac!)

  • Fixed a wide range of dialogue cues, cutscene positioning errors, and other little things.
  • Added a wide array of form handlers for cases previously missing them.
  • ‘Examine’ is now a synonym of ‘Think’ in Text Adventure Mode. (Suggested by Aaaac)

Development Update: December 25th, 2018

Very short update. Here it is.

I know I promised a release, however, that’s not happening. I got so many bug reports from the patrons that I’m not releasing it because it’ll probably just cause a lot of headaches – for me and for you. I was sick (still am!) and short on time, so it’s not ready. It’s the holidays, this happens.

On the positive side, I got the OSX build working again by downloading the command line tools from a previous XCode version and using those headers. Take THAT, Apple! No guarantees how long this will work for, but it works for now!

Otherwise, see you next week. Hopefully, with a completed fixed build for all to enjoy.

Development Update: December 17th, 2018

MosquitoGirl.jpg

Free bonus stuff! Mosquito girl! LeechCo Brand Doctor Bags have stiff competition from the Mosquit-O-Negative Blood services!

Programming Update

I have two more events to go through, some testing, and then I will send out the next brief prototype for patrons. If there are no massive bugs, it will go public next week just in time for the holidays.

The next prototype features a lot of backfilled content. Interactions, animations, the Tellurium Mines finally being finished – there’s lots there.

Art Update

Chicken has finished the colored and shaded Cassandra transformation images and will be getting me the neutral dialogue poses for all of Christine’s forms. Now she won’t look so janky in conversations! Some other art also got shading improvements and whatnot. Hund is also going to be attempting to get the Doll Manor stuff to a shading phase before I start work on it.

The Holidays

Other than the expected release next week, there won’t be a whole lot going on. I’m out of town for next week (big surprise) as is most of the team. Hey, we’re allowed one week off per year, right?

Right?

Development Update: December 10th, 2018

Coding Stuff

The last little while I’ve been working on small bugfixes and backfilling. In fact, the public trello boards are looking pretty bare (relative to where they were before, yikes).

This week it’s content updates to the first half of Chapter 5. I’m going to add the extra events to the Tellurium Mines, add a boss at Floor 50 of the mines, add the secret area to Chapter 5, and add some special date scenes.

Next week and for the rest of December will be me finishing Doll Manor. Whenever that’s done, it’s on to finishing the rest of Chapter 5.

Art Stuff

Chickenwhite has been producing lots of little things we’ve been needing for a long time. Like this:
emotes_grid_slave_golem

We’ve been needing such portraits for a long time since the “enemy” versions are way too big to display correctly.

Meanwhile, Hund is finishing the Doll Manor inking. We’re going to figure out how we’re going to shade and color those later.

Urimas has completed the second of our experimental animations. I hope to have it implemented this week, at which point patrons might get a wonderful surprise.

Everything Else

MarioneTTe promises to have the ghost 5$ story up sometime soon.
