Development Update: June 17th, 2019

Health Update

I’ve been sick for the last week and am currently on antibiotics. Hoping it clears up soon.

Programming Update

Due to the illness mentioned above, progress has been rather slow. I finished the mapping for the final subquest and am partway through the writing of it, but not as far along as I had wanted.

My goal is to finish it this week and send it along to internal testers next week so as to clean up any serious bugs before the big release.

The target release date is June 29th for patrons. Please be patient with me if I push it back a week due to the illness.

Art Update

Chicken has completed the Raiju TF sequence and the Dreamer TF sequence. Her current goals are to finish several emotes and maybe the milking sequence. Anything not completed before the patron prototype will likely be done before the public version.

Koops has completed a new ending CG for Doll Manor! Way to go, Koops!

Urimas is current on his spriting assignments.

Stinkehund has inked the last emote page given to him (Steam Droid) and will be inking larger images while waiting for the next steam droid page.

Music Madness

DrDiss has given us a new cultist theme! It will be up on Patreon for everyone to enjoy next week as an everyone-bonus-stuff. This week, patrons get to see part of the Raiju TF.

Development Update: June 10th, 2019

Programming

90% done the third subquest, just needing to put in the finale sequence now. Unfortunately I got sick with a very nasty cold, so it’ll be a day or two before that’s done.

After that, the last subquest is the Raibies questline, which is a puzzle-solving adventure with some combat. It’s one of the more complex subquests.

I have 20 days to get that done, at which point any extra time goes to bug testing. Hurrah.

Artistic Endeavours

Chicken has completed the Eldritch Dreamer transformation art – and patrons get to see it over the next two weeks!

Urimas has completed all the needed sprites.

Hund is mostly done his inkwork for emotes and is doing some experimental shading on the latex drone images.

Music

Because I didn’t know where I got the cultist dungeon theme from, and I’m not 100% certain it isn’t copyrighted, I managed to trick DrDissonance into making a new layered track for the cultist dungeon!

It’s sounding pretty good. Patrons will get to hear it whenever it gets finalized.

The Home Stretch

The next prototype comes out before the end of the month. I’m going to work my butt off to make it happen.

Development Update: June 3rd, 2019

BREAKING NEWS: WORD-GUY MARIONETTE WRITES WORDS

That’s right, MarioneTTe has finally uploaded the next installment of the Pandemonium: Not a Video Game but Actually a Book series. You can see it here on Amazon. Patrons for specific months already have a copy, but now the general public can have one!

You can also see an image of ghost Mei and her regular panties. You pervs.

In other news, Mario announced that the Alraune and Werecat stories are on their way. We do not have an ETA for them yet. 5$ patrons starting in June (which is now!) will get copies when they are released.

Programming Stuff

I’m currently halfway through the third subquest in the Biolabs, with the most complicated one being last. This one is unique, silly, and heartwarming, with bullets and explosions and dancing.

Urimas is making dancing moth sprites. Stinkehund has to complete 3 more emote pages and finish inking one of the gala portraits.

Chickenwhite promises that the EDG TF sequence images will be ready by next Monday. Patrons will get a sneak peek, everyone else will have to wait for the prototype.

Current objective is end of June. We’re on track to make it.

Development Update: May 27th, 2019

Programming Crap

Finished the Aquatics subquest, 2/3rds done the Amphibian subquest. It includes a charming puzzle and a whole bunch of amphibian facts. Did you know there are three major groupings of amphibians: salamanders, frogs/toads, and caecilans? I didn’t know about that last one and now I do!

I want to complete all the subquests and enemy balancing by mid-June so we have some time for testing and expansions. Hopefully on track!

Art

Chickenwhite promises to have the Eldritch Dreamer TF images done, and the Raiju TF images done, by the time the Patron-prototype goes out at end of June. Anything else will be additional emote sheets.

Otherwise, Hund and Urimas are mostly caught up on their activities. Hund has completed most of the emote pages and has to finish off Latex Christine.

Writing

We have the cover for the ghost story. Patrons get to see it today! It will be live on Amazon in… whenever Mario gets it uploaded and approved. Get psyched! You get to see Mei’s butt.

The last of the first three Klaysee commissions, it’s a cultist (named Bianca, according to Klaysee) becoming a latex drone! It’s a three part series you can see on Sinpai’s deviantart. Go give her a like/comment/subscribe or whatever the hell DA does. I don’t know but go do it.

Programming and Stuff

This week, I completed one of the four sidequests that needs to be done for the Biolabs. Three to go!

I also fixed a bug or two (Thanks, Klaysee) and added cinematic sidebars. Plus some engine work. But it’s mostly the side quest.

I hope to have all sidequests completed by mid-June so I can get some bugs fixed before the big release. Get psyched.

Artism

Stinkehund is working on getting all of Christine’s emotes done up. He’s most of the way through her Human form and Latex Drone is next.

Chickenwhite is both writing up the milking scene (it will be released to patrons probably next week in an early form) and working on the Ghost Cover. I don’t know which we’ll get first!

Urimas has actually completed his outstanding assignments and is working on his mech game. Because we need clicker games in 2019 amirite?

Overall

It’s back to work. I have just under a month of solid work ahead of me.

Development Update: May 13th, 2019

Programming and Stuff

This week, I finished the main story path for the Biolabs and updated the engine for widescreen UI usage. Note that I have not optimized it yet, I just re-centered everything and realigned text as needed. There is extra space on the widescreen UI that can be used to improve presentation and provide more detailed descriptions of some abilities.

I’ve also finished most of something that will be a secret for a little while yet. More on that later. For now, progress.

Also, a tentative release target is End of June. I will need to bang out one sidequest every 12 days on average, which is quite doable assuming no horrible bugs show up.

Artage

Hund has finished inking those Sophie/Christine dialogue portraits, Urimas is making me the weird tiles I asked for, and Chicken is really sick and thus hasn’t started on the Ghost Story cover yet. That will be her next target.

I know, I know. Sinpai posted this a while ago, but I kept getting caught up. Well no more!

You can see the whole sequence on Sinpai’s DA gallery. It’s Mary from Doll Manor becoming a clay girl! I like the third frame the most, while Commissioner and Foe of Marsupials Klaysee said she liked the second frame more.

Pandemonium is Going W I D E S C R E E N

As a consequence of other things, I was looking at the Steam Hardware Survey and noticed that the number of users on 4:3 aspect ratio monitors has dropped so low that I think we can safely stop targeting that hardware.

Back when I started development on this engine, 4:3 aspect ratios were about 25% of the Steam userbase, and the Steam userbase is going to be somewhat biased towards better PCs since it is a gaming service. So I figured it’d be best to target 4:3 since I didn’t want to leave any users behind, and it doesn’t do much to a widescreen user to have some black bars on the sides of the screen.

Well it’s been a few years and 4:3 has basically vanished from the market. A few percentage points of stragglers still have them. The only places I see 4:3 screens are the ancient computers still running Windows XP that are at the local grocery store. So I may as well update Pandemonium’s engine to target widescreen ratios.

If you are a 4:3 user then do not despair. You will still be able to play the game so long as your display is larger than the default 1366×768 virtual canvas, there will just be black borders on YOUR screen instead. But since that’s practically nobody at this point, I’m talking to myself right now.

For everyone else, it means that you’ll be able to see more of the world at once and that there will be more space on the UI. Spreading it out a bit means combat and dialogue are a little less cluttered, but that’s basically it. We weren’t hurting for screen space.

It will probably be a few months, as the team is going to be Kickstartering the tools (from what I understand) and that coincides nicely with us wrapping up Chapter 5 and Doll Manor.

That’s right, once again, on a critical vote there has been a #%^@#%^#6ing TIE. A three-way tie no less, with golems coming in 4th trailing by one vote. Wow, thanks everyone. Super.

I suppose it will be up to the artists which of the three they want to make, and knowing Chickenwhite as I do, she’s going to want to make more than one. And that means I’m going to have to write a lot more scenarios. Geez.

And Zoe takes the win, with the vendor Valerie behind by four votes.

I mean, nobody should be surprised by this. Zoe is a super-nerdy eldritch abomination older than time itself and also writes shipfics of everyone so she fits in perfectly with Pandemonium’s demographic of insane people.

Now remember that this just means that Zoe will feature prominently in the mod-character’s storyline, not that she will be the only character. The only character that will absolutely not appear is Liam because I hate Liam, Hund hates Liam, Chicken hates Liam, everyone hates Liam.

Das Kapital was Karl Marx’s treastise attempting to describe and critique capitalism. Written over the course of his life (and left uncompleted, the second and third parts were released posthumously by his friend Friedrich Engels by putting together his notes and manuscripts) and published in 1867, the tome had a massive impact on world history and serves as one of the pillars of socialist thought.

And for some inscrutable reason, Monster Prom has several references to socialism, so much so that it came up multiple times when Klaysee and I were playing it. Because they knew.

This was a joke question. But since we got 18 yes votes, I might just do it. As a joke.

The Actual Game Update

On the programming side, I have completed the mainline story content for the Biolabs! Yes there is backfilling to do (writing variations of cutscenes with different forms and without SX-399) and probably bugs, but that’s the usual. The point is that the Biolabs can now be played start to finish.

This week I will be doing that backfilling and upgrading the UI to widescreen, which mostly consists of changing a bunch of constants in the code and moving the assets around.

Chicken got sick and is a little behind, but has completed the gala emotes for both Sophie and Christine. Patrons will get to see some this week! Urimas is making miscellaneous sprites for me, including the humans who live in the Biolabs. Hund is back to work on emotes after having completed a bunch of concept art for… things you will see later…

Oh and Mario has been asking me odd questions about Rochea. It’s almost as if he’s writing the Alraune story. Except he said he wasn’t (yet) when I accused him of that. Strange.

Monster Prom is releasing modding tools

What the hell?

Yep, it was announced yesterday that Monster Prom, a game about dating (and getting rejected by I HAD 13 BOLDNESS WHAT THE FUCK) monster girls and boys is getting modder tools. You can see the reddit thread here.

What does this have to do with Pandemonium? Is it not obvious?

We want to make our own silly mod! Probably featuring 1 main dateable character and a few side characters. And we want your 5$ patron opinions!

For obvious reasons, this won’t happen for a while. The mod tools aren’t even out, and Chapter 5 and Doll Manor take precedence. Still, 5$ patrons will have a poll up to vote on what we decide to focus on.

Programming Update

I have resolved that I will complete the Epsilon Habitat stuff and finish the story targets this week. It’s a tall order considering it’s a short week (I spent more days at my day job than usual) but I’m the kind of stubborn that I must get it done.

Art Update

Urimas got sick and is thus behind on his spriting duties. Chicken has been slow as well. Hund finished the concept work and is back to work on getting all the emotes inked and shaded.

The Nekomatas are an enigmatic partirhuman species known for their selfishness and cruel trickery. They are the mortal enemies of the Kitsunes since ancient times, believing their patron Fox Goddess emphasized cleverness for self-interest.

Nothing is sacred to the Nekomatas. They are said to be necromancers, the banned sorcery that not even the ethics-free Regulans dared flirt with. They can do terrible things to your body, and then doubly terrible things to your soul.

Woe unto any who cross paths with one. Whatever they offer you, whatever they tell you, it is a trick, a lie, to get you to give up something. You might just give up something even more important than your own life.

Programming Stuff

Finished examination text and several cutscenes up to the Raiju Ranch. Working through the remaining two and then it’s on to NPC dialogues.

Art Stuff

Chicken is currently finishing off Christine and Sophie’s gala emotes, and then will be doing the cover art for Hostin’ Makes Me Feel Good, the ghost tie-in story for Chapter 1.

Stinkehund completed the new title screen and I’ll have more announcements on that next week.

Development Update: April 15th, 2019

Having Trouble? Trouble No More!

#1 Fan and Bane of Marsupials Klaysee has written a guide for Chapter 5! It includes battle tactics, Chemfuel speculation, screenshots, and other useful gubbins.

She’s spent the last few weeks compiling the whole thing, so give it a read. Chances are you missed something in Chapter 5 and now, you can find it!

Programming and Scripting

I had wanted to finish all the examination text up to the Raiju Ranch this week, but I got distracted. I’m currently working on the Raiju Ranch’s examination text, and the rest of this week will be dedicated to NPCs and Cutscenes. Once that’s done, it’s time to start working on the sidequests!

Everything Else

Hund has finished our title screen and is working on the… interesting stuff for Chapter 2. I had a brief art meeting to set out priorities for the next few months. Chicken promises she can get it alllllllll done, and I believe her. Yep.
